An experiment in non-linear time

Books and the Landscape

A library of trees, each book a box made from the wood and bark of the tree, containing leaves, flowers and seeds from that tree. A small forest can fit inside a library, a tree can fit on my lap.

The original wood library was crafted by Carl Schildbach in 1771-1799, with trees from across Europe. Mark Dion made the hexagonal library and added some new books, one for each missing continent plus an oak representing the 1000 oaks planted in Kassel by Joseph Beuys.
