The day I posted about Naming Things I opened the Tao Te Ching at random, having spotted it on the shelf in a moment of idleness. It opened at #32 – The Tao is always nameless:

The Tao is always nameless…
People, unable to deal with It on its own terms
Make adjustments,
And so you have the beginning of division into names.

Coincidentally this is the 32nd post I have written (but not the 32nd to post according to the randomness of posting order).

I find it interesting that the Tao talks about “division into names” as I see our naming of other living things as a way of feeling we have some control over them – divide and conquer.
